How the Beyond the Path Jingle Was Born

Every great story needs a soundtrack.

And for Beyond the Path, the journey didn’t just start with words, it started with music.

Before the first narration was recorded or the first guest invited, there was a feeling that had to be captured: the feeling of movement, memory, and magic.

And so, the jingle was born.

This isn’t just any theme song. It’s a layered, cinematic blend of culture, rhythm, and soul. It was created by Beyond the Path’s very own tour guide and host, Njoki Munene, right in her home, rooted in a beloved family tradition.

🌍 A Sunday Soundtrack: Where It All Began

Every Sunday, the Tour Guide’s household transforms into a global soundscape. One week it’s the smooth trumpet of Cuban jazz, tthe next it might be the bright melodies of Mandopop, Mandarin pop music loved across China or the hypnotic twang of Indian sitars. For Njoki and her family, it’s not just background music, it’s an adventure, a way to travel the world from their living room in Nairobi.

“We call it Search Sundays,” Njoki says. “It’s our way of showing the kids the world through sound.”

This weekly ritual inspired the heart of the Beyond the Path jingle. If the podcast was going to take listeners on a journey, through the twists and turns of women’s real-life career paths, it needed a soundtrack that could travel too.

🥁 A Global Rhythm in Every Beat

The final composition is a joyous, genre-defying fusion that reflects the global spirit of the podcast:

  • Latin Horns – bright, bold and full of life, representing flair and celebration.
  • Indian Pakawaj Drum – deep, meditative rhythm that grounds the beat in tradition and spiritual resonance.
  • African Drums – fast, layered percussion that adds energy and movement, mimicking the heartbeat of a story in motion.

Each instrument was carefully chosen to symbolize something beyond sound. The Latin horns speak to boldness. The pakawaj invites introspection. And the African drums? They’re the pulse of resilience.

👶 A Personal Touch: Family in the Mix

And then, there’s the secret ingredient.

Njoki added the recorded sounds of her own children laughing and playing, echoing softly beneath the beat. It’s subtle, but it’s there, woven into the fabric of the track. A tribute to legacy, to joy, and to the small voices that shape our lives in quiet, powerful ways.

“Including my kids was important,” she shares. “Beyond the Path is about legacy. And they’re mine. It felt right to have their voices travel with every episode.”

🎙️ Why the Jingle Matters

In a world of templated podcast themes and recycled loops, this jingle stands apart. It doesn’t just introduce an episode, it sets the scene for a journey.

It transports listeners from their headphones to boardrooms, childhood bedrooms, craft studios, and beyond. It primes them to feel something, excitement, nostalgia, reflection.

The music, much like the stories it preludes, reminds us that paths are never linear. They’re layered. Rooted. Winding. And worth listening to.

✨ Listen With Intention

So, the next time you hit play on an episode of Beyond the Path, take a moment to let the intro wash over you. Hear the laughter, the drums, the horns. Feel the rhythm of reinvention and resilience. That’s not just a jingle, it’s a passport. It’s a heartbeat. It’s the sound of women rewriting their stories.

🎶 And that, dear traveler, is where the magic begins…
